The war of words

  vs

The game itself was not very competitive, but before it
began there were plenty of fireworks.
Lou Piniella and Steve Stone’s war of words was the stuff of
legend.  But in this rivalry it was just
another awesome moment.

Lou Piniella is an idiot.
He knows that he is facing pressure from fans and management so he took
a statement by Steve Stone out of context and blows up.  I thought it was hilarious.  Steve Stone, White Sox broadcast analyst,
made a suggestion that young Tyler Colvin should play more often.  He has been suggesting that for over a month
now because the Cubs are bad.  And Lou
went nuts.  Saying that he has five
outfielders and he needs to give them all playing time.

Lou, your team is bad.
When people look back on this season and your team finishes at the
bottom of the barrel will they say, “Well at least he is fair and gave everyone
equal playing time.”  No, they will say,
“Maybe he should have put the best players on the field who gave you the best
chance to win.  And if your season is
going nowhere, like this year, we wish we would have had the chance to see the
young guys play so we could be prepared for the future.”

He says that people who aren’t managers shouldn’t make those
types of statements.  They should talk to
him first and get his statement on it before making a statement like that.  And this was just the tip of the iceberg.

First of all, they are broadcasters.  They are paid to give their opinion, even if
you disagree.  And as far as asking your
opinion Lou, we have done that and you give blanket statements and dodge the
question.  Such as your next question
asked:  He was asked a question about
Jake Peavy and Lou went nuts.

Then he said this, and this is a direct quote, there is no
typo here:  “And Steve Stone, he has
enough problems doing what he does with the White Sox.  Which job has he had in baseball besides
talking on, on, on, on, on, on, on, on, on, on, on, on, on, on, the television
or radio?  What has he done?  Why isn’t he a farm director, and bring some kids
around?  Why isn’t he a GM?  Why hasn’t he ever put the uniform on and
been a pitching coach?  Why hasn’t he
been a field manager?  There are 30 teams
out there that could use a guy’s expertise like that.  I am tired of some of these guys, I really
am, now lets go to baseball.”

He then answered the question about Peavy again and he finally
answered it.  Perhaps Lou they don’t ask
you the questions first because you avoid them.
Also, since when do you need to be a manager, or someone in the clubhouse
to have an opinion?  Steve Stone gets
paid to share his opinion.  He is allowed
to give it.  Also according to Stone, he
has been offered the type of jobs you mentioned and turned them down.  He didn’t want them.  As for the stuttering all I have to say is
wow.

Lou your team is struggling.
Perhaps you should listen to other opinions because yours are not
working.  Now you have the right to
disagree, but those who share those opinions have the right to share them.  No matter if they are a GM, manager, coach,
player, broadcaster or a fan.

I have a great deal of respect for Lou, and one can’t argue with his impressive track record. However, I also have a lot of respect for Steve Stone. I have listened to him for many years, and have been amazed many times how his intuitive comments have proven correct. I for one am dissapointed that he has chosen not to go into management, as i believe he would do an excellent job.
